I’m an experienced piano teacher at all levels and age groups, from young children to adults.
For each new student I spend time to assess your skill level and what you want to achieve with your lessons. The focus is on you, and whether your passion is Elton John or Chopin I can shape my approach to your goals, making it fun and engaging along the way.
Each lesson will include a plan for home practice that is realistic to your lifestyle and free time. I aim to be efficient and clear in my teaching methods.
I have an advanced DBS certificate and extensive experience of teaching children, helping them to appreciate and love playing the piano.
I can teach in my native Ukrainian, in Russian or English.
I offer both online and in-person lessons. I am based in London SW8 (Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Stockwell) and can travel to your location within reason.
Children’s lessons
For children I focus on piano technique and exercises in a playful way that includes games and duets.
When they’re ready I introduce pieces and songs for them to learn, both during the lesson and for homework.
I also prepare my students for grade exams if required.
Adult lessons
For adults the focus is good technique and correcting any bad habits. Lessons can be based around learning pieces or studying genres through its history and theory.
Either way is a great way to learn, but the long-term goal is to achieve the freedom of the keyboard through a full understanding of keys, scales, chords and arpeggios. This opens up the exciting world of improvision and composition.
Gliere ‘Melody’
Reinhold Gliere was born in 1875 and was professor and director of the Kyiv Conservatory, where I attended many years later. I love this slow and reflective study that is very much in the romantic style. I often play it to focus my mind and creative energies before a long practice session.
